Summer Downtown Hayward Street Party Series Wraps Up Aug. 21 with 'California Dreamin' and Five Bands

The final event in the 2014 downtown Hayward Street Party season will be Thursday, Aug. 21, with bands on five stages, a classic car show, street entertainers, food, and family fun. The party will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on B Street between Foothill Blvd and City Hall on Watkins Street.

The list of bands for Aug. 21  features salsa-influenced Patron on the Bank of the West stage, classic rockabilly of Royal Deuces at The Bistro patio stage at B and Main Streets, Third Sol on the Newman Park stage at B Street and Mission Boulevard, the R&B and swing of Stompey Jones at Buffalo Bills', and the Hayward High School Marching Band at B and Watkins streets near City Hall Plaza.

The  series of traditional Thursday night street parties kicked off June 19 and was followed up on July 17.

Additional entertainment at these events is provided by street performers, face-painters and pony rides and games for kids. Adults can enjoy the 100 hot rods and classics at the Downtown Hayward Classic Car Show on Main Street, sponsored by Rebello’s Towing of Hayward. Exhibitors compete for prizes such as Best in Show and the People's Choice Award. This is the 10th year the chamber and DBIA have offered summer-long car shows.

Great brews are served in beer and soda gardens.

“Hayward street parties have been bringing families to our city center to celebrate the summer for 15 years,” said Kim Huggett, president of the Hayward Chamber of Commerce. “These free events are part of a great Hayward tradition of community celebrations that appeal to all ages.”

The street party series is made possible through partnership of the Hayward Chamber of Commerce, the City of Hayward, and the Downtown Business Improvement Area. The DBIA is a consortium of businesses that work together to make the downtown area an attractive destination for shopping, dining, entertainment, and the arts.

Other sponsors of the street party series include the City of Hayward, Buffalo Bills Brewery, PG&E, Kaiser Permanente, Wells Fargo Bank, Russell City Energy Center, Comcast, Bay Area News Group, and Horizon Beverage Company.

The chamber office is still accepting reservations from vendors. For information, call (510) 537-2424.

Third Sol will be among five Street Party bands on Aug. 21.
